Welcome to our home. We welcome weekend rentals for those in town for events, family gatherings or just a relaxing weekend away. Our home is very comfortable, all one level, no steps at all, Garage parking, and Green Egg for grilling. You will find our home very well furnished with high end beds and bedding as well as a mix of antiques. Many have commented on our collection of original art as one of their favorite things about staying with us. We offer all king beds in 3 bedrooms. The main bedroom includes a huge and luxury master bath with separate soaking tub and double granite vanities. The other two bedrooms share a Jack and Jill bath with separate vanity areas for each bedroom. The kitchen is HUGE. With gas cooktop as well as an island. The soaring ceiling in the entry reminds you of a gallery with original art work complimenting all walls. We are in a garden home community, however, the back deck is private with well placed evergreen trees. This is a quiet community, so if you are looking for a big party place, this is not the spot for you. But if you just want to relax in a super comfortable home, feel free to reach out to us. We are close to everything. 7-10 minutes from Lee Branch. 45 mins to Talladega. And we even get bookings for people going to Alabama games in Tuscaloosa.

We have decided to share our awesome rustic cabin, as it is a relaxing getaway in a beautiful setting. You will feel like you are miles away from civilization, yet this fantastic cabin is conveniently located to wonderful restaurants, great shopping, movie theaters, and more. This authentic 1812 cabin was moved here from Tennessee, and rebuilt in 1993 with some modern conveniences, so you have the best of both worlds! Enjoy the original chink log cabin, with a real wood burning fireplace located within 40 fenced acres. This property is mostly hardwoods, so the Autumn colors are spectacular. If you are an animal lover, you can enjoy the beautiful horses, as well as longhorn cows, goats, chickens, and more! The cabin overlooks a stocked fishing pond, and you will also have the use of a huge pavilion on the lake. This is the perfect romantic getaway, or a fantastic place for the entire family. Meadow Lake Suite is relaxing, private, and cozy, with a picturesque meadow, stream and fishing lake just a few steps away. Yet nearby are parks, restaurants, and shops. It's the perfect accommodation for couples, small families, seniors, solo adventurers, and business travelers. While the owners live in the home upstairs, guests have the roomy suite all to themselves. This is a private and restful one-bedroom, ground-level/walkout basement suite that features easily accessible parking; its own entrance; roomy master bedroom with queen bed, closet and desk; smaller separate bedroom area with a single bed; large bathroom with walk-in shower; kitchenette area; and a living room with comfortable seating, cafe table, and room for a roll-away bed. The suite is fairly accessible for those with limited mobility or handicaps. A crib is available on request. We also rent a cabin on the property that sleeps 4, allowing larger groups of up to 8 to enjoy the property together. (Search for "Meadow Lake Cabin" on HomeAway.) Our check-in time is 3 p.m. Central. Check-out time is 10 a.m. Central. Please DON"T assume we're okay with arrival or departure times different from these. These times are based on our personal schedules, that are necessary for hosting you and others, and arriving early or departing late isn't acceptable without previous approval. We're situated on 3.5 acres. Guests have access to the front meadow, a seasonal stream, views overlooking a 6-acre lake, dock (fishing only on our end of the lake, which is small but productive, and is catch and release only), lakeside benches, and our (unheated) salt-system swimming pool with patio dining tables (located behind our home). The owners live in the house upstairs from the Suite. Meadow Lake Cabin, on the same property as the Suite, may also be rented through HomeAway, so that groups of up to 8 can be accommodated simultaneously. Both Cabin and Suite guests share use of the pool, dock, and grounds. Our lake is home to Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Gar & several turtle species, and is periodically visited by Great Blue & Green Herons, Canada Geese, Mallards, Wood Ducks, Kingfishers, Muskrats, & Beavers. Our home is located just off a county road, but on a private lane that's only used by the few residents living on it, allowing privacy without being remote. There is a railroad crossing within 1 mile, but the sound of the occasional train is usually soothing rather than disruptive. Chelsea has small-town character, but easy access to big-city amenities. The Shelby County area has many quiet and scenic roads to explore. Within 15 minutes you can find great dining and shopping options, a large cinema, and any number of services. Our county seat, Columbiana, has a pleasant Main Street to stroll, complete with a drugstore soda fountain. Columbiana also lays claim to a small gem of a museum with the second largest collection of George & Martha Washington memorabilia outside of Mt. Vernon! Meadow Lake is approximately 30 minutes drive from downtown Birmingham, 40 minutes drive from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (23 mi or 37 km), 2.5 hours from Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport (152 mi or 245 km), 30 minutes from Amtrak Birmingham rail station (19 mi or 30 km), and less than 30 minutes from Interstates 65, 20, or 459. We believe informality is a key ingredient of relaxation, and it begins when you arrive. We allow guests to let themselves in and get settled, and enjoy meeting them later when possible. We're always glad to recommend places to visit, shop, or eat at in our area, or otherwise make ourselves available to help. Here are some important Rules of the House that our guests should know: - We respect our guests' right to a quiet getaway, and ask them to also respect the peacefulness we enjoy. Evening quiet hours are from 10pm to 7am, but we like for Meadow Lake to be a tranquil place all day. Loud volume music or other entertainment isn't allowed on the property. Full disclosure: on weekends (mostly on Sundays) our children and grandchildren occasionally enjoy the afternoon in our home, so there is more activity upstairs or on the grounds at this time (usually from 1-6 p.m.). This Suite is in our home, so a give and take is expected. You may hear us upstairs just as we may hear you downstairs, but by being considerate of one-another's needs and schedules it works well. We are never loud and boisterous, and expect our guests to not be either. - Our floors are carpeted for comfort, and we ask (but don't require) our guests to remove their shoes indoors to keep it a clean and sanitary space for themselves and future guests. Please bring slippers or socks. - The suite, the area immediately around the house, and the pool area are all Smoke-Free Zones. Smoking is only permitted on the lawn areas. There are no exceptions to this. Smoking is permitted on the lawn, and guests must dispose of cigarette butts in their vehicle ashtray or a water bottle, not indoors. Smoking indoors will incur a damage fee. - We require an accurate statement of the number of guests in your party, and that IF THERE ARE 3 OR 4 GUESTS THE EXTRA PERSON FEE OF $12 PER PERSON PER NIGHT BE PAID THROUGH HOME AWAY IN ADVANCE OF ARRIVAL. Cash will not be accepted. There is a limit of 4 people who can be accommodated in the Suite, and only the first 2 guests are covered in the basic rate. There is no extra person fee for children under 1 year old. - Guests of ours may not invite their own guests into the Suite or onto the grounds, unless we've given our consent. Guests of ours may not invite others onto the property without our prior consent. If extra guests stay in the Suite without our consent you will be charged $50 per person, and you may also be required to leave immediately. - Please remember that NO pets are allowed in the Suite. This is to accommodate guests with allergies. Sorry, but no exceptions are considered (except for bona fide service dogs). Our “Meadow Lake Cabin,” however, can accommodate dogs. See its separate listing for the policy. Our dog "Tilly" lives in our home or fenced back yard, but does not have access to the apartment or other areas of the property. Our cat "Pepper" lives upstairs with us, and is never allowed in the apartment. - Personal firearms may not be carried openly on the grounds or brought into the Suite. - Minors using the pool or lake must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. - A canoe is available for guests, but passengers must know how to swim and wear a PFD (personal flotation device, which is provided) at all times. -The Host has a Master's degree in Environmental Education, and is a certified Alabama Master Naturalist. Guided nature walks can be arranged for an extra charge. If interested please inquire for details in advance of your stay. We also rent a mobile Grills, BBQ Smokers and Pizza Ovens for area events, through BBQRents, if you’re in our area for a family reunion or party.

Meadow Lake Cabin is a hidden gem in scenic Shelby County Alabama. Though convenient to shopping, restaurants, recreation venues, and the city of Birmingham, sometimes locals are surprised to find out about our "hide-away" in the heart of Chelsea. The cabin has a large room downstairs with a living room (sleeper sofa, chairs, desk, & stone fireplace), dining area (seats 4), equipped kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom features an antique claw-foot tub for baths or showers. Upstairs is a sleeping loft with a queen-size bed. The full-length front porch is furnished with a swing, love seat, and charcoal grill. There is an outdoor shower behind the cabin. The cabin is surrounded by woods, flowering shrubs, and a bamboo grove behind, with open views of the meadow and lake in front. Please see the “Amenities” tab for a list of what the Cabin offers, or doesn’t. You’ll see there that TV and Internet are NOT offered in the Cabin, only a small radio. This is by design, not neglect. We ask that parents/guardians be the judge of this and be vigilant. They will be the only guarantors of the safety of minors on the property. We are glad to answer in detail any questions regarding this. - We welcome non-crawling infants, and porta-crib is available for your use. There are hard and sharp surfaces in the Cabin, and the wall-mounted heater and kitchen supplies are all within reach of toddlers. The stair treads in the Cabin have gaps that a small child could possibly crawl through. - Please be advised that the Cabin may not be a good fit for elderly or those with restricted mobility, as there are stairs into and within the Cabin, and one must step over a high tub wall for bathing or showering. - A canoe is available for guests, but passengers must know how to swim and wear a PFD (personal flotation device) at all times. PETS: We will consider allowing dogs on a case-by-case basis. There are nearby kennels for cats, but they aren't allowed in the cabin.  We require a fee of $10 per night to accommodate dogs. This fee covers up to 2 dogs for 1 night. Prospective guests must select to pay the Pet Fee from the booking options when making their reservation. We don't accept cash to pay for this fee. Our policy for allowing dogs is is that they be house-broken, that damage to the cabin or property be absolutely prevented at all times, that they not be allowed on any furniture or bed, that they be kept on a lead/leash when outside the cabin, that they be given frequent opportunities to relieve themselves outdoors and picked up after, that they be crated if left alone in the cabin (and not left alone for more than a couple of hours at a time), that they be free of any sickness that could be passed to other pets, and that they be current on their flea medication. If the property is damaged by the dog (including urine on furniture or floor), or if there is a flea problem after check-out, it will be paid for from the Security Deposit that's required. Before your check-out we may do a walk-through with you to verify there were no problems, so neither party will be surprised to learn of something afterward. Our guests must agree to strict compliance with all these points, for the protection of the property, for the comfort of future guests, and for the well-being of your own pet.  Dog supplies (bowls, beds, leashes, crates, etc.) aren't provided and must be brought by the guest. Guests may not allow pets to eat from Cabin tableware or kitchenware under any circumstances. If all of the above is agreeable to you then you are welcome to bring your dog(s).

Pet Policy: As dog lovers, we know it can be hard to leave your four-legged friends at home, so we are happy to host guests with dogs. We allow dogs only in apartments 3, 4, and 5. No pets are allowed in apartments 1 and 2. We have added amenities – including beds – to make your stay more comfortable for both you and your pups. If you are traveling with a dog, please let us know when you book or inquire. There is a non-refundable pet fee of $20/night per dog to cover additional wear and tear and cleaning. We charge this separately after your booking is confirmed through Airbnb. If your plans change, you can easily add or remove pets from your reservation. We appreciate your cooperation with this policy, as it benefits us a great deal to know in advance if you are staying with pets so that we can plan for additional cleaning. If you bring a pet without notifying us, you will forfeit your deposit. Because incidents do happen and we would like to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all our guests, we have a few rules we ask guests with pets to follow: 1. Only well behaved, well traveled, house trained dogs are allowed. No other animals are allowed. 2. Keep your dogs on leash when they are outside. Do not let them roam free, keep an eye on them at all times, and please clean up after them – no one likes to step in poo. 3. No pets on the furniture. Please use a dog bed, blanket, or crate. 4. Do not leave your dogs unattended in the rental for more than an hour or two at a time. Lonely dogs in new spaces can quickly become destructive and disruptive. 5. No aggressive or loud dogs are permitted. If your pup struggles with these issues, please keep him at home. Disruptive, barking, and/or aggressive dogs will be asked to leave, and their owners will forfeit any remaining nights on their reservation without a refund. Finally, by bringing a pet on the property, you agree to assume full responsibility for your pet. If your pet causes any injury or harm to other guests or to the property, you will be 100% liable for any necessary treatment, care, or repair.
